It certainly doesn’t “feel” like Christmas when the temperature outside is hovering around 30 degrees Celsius, but celebrating in Macha does have its perks.
Christmas is very simple here, which I love. We did a little Christmas baking (homemade cinnamon buns!), we bought a few small presents and we spent time with family and friends who are like family. There were no crazy shopping trips (well, shopping in Choma is always a little crazy, but that’s another story) and no exhaustion caused by running from event to event – just lots of time together with those we love.
One of my favourite parts of Christmas is giving gifts. I think I enjoy it even more here because I know that some of my friends aren’t able to simply go out and buy what they want or perhaps even need. At this time of year, especially, I am reminded that I have been blessed with so much and thoughtful gifts are one small way I can pass that blessing on to others.
Tonight we enjoyed a Christmas dinner with friends. We kept it simple since we weren’t sure we would have power and decided to have a Canadian summer staple food – burgers. Yep, homemade hamburgers cooked on the grill for Christmas dinner. They were delicious!
From our family to yours, we hope that you have a wonderful Christmas season. And may the coming year be full of beautiful moments and reminders of God’s faithfulness.
